چکیده

duction and Annotations, by R. A. Leach, of Gray's Inn, Barrister-at-Law, Northern Circuit. Poor-Law Publications, Ltd. 15/-. For some years those whose duties have included the guidingof students through the intricacies of the Mental Deficiency Act have found themselves hampered by the fact that " Leach " was out of print; for to read the Act by itself is a process of little value, tending, in our experience, rather to bewilder than to enlighten the enquirer, and for an intelligent grasp of it, not only notes and explanations of obscure phrases are necessary, but also the Circulars and Regulations which clothe its dry bones. Many of these Circulars it is impossible now to procure, and the text book before us is the only one which contains them. If only for that reason alone its reappearance in a new and thoroughly revised edition would be a matter for congratulation.

The Mental Deficiency Services Today and Tomorrow *A talk given to the Mental Deficiency Section of the Royal Medico-Psychological Association at their Annual General Meeting, 16th July, 1954.

care and training of high grade mental defectives could not be better carried out within the framework of the general social services rather than through a special mental deficiency service. I shall try to show very briefly how I think this could be accomplished, and why I favour the contraction rather than the expansion of the mental deficiency services. First, then, to whom do the mental defi...

By H. K. SNELL, M.D. Medical Officer, H.M. Prison, Liverpool The new scientific approach to the problem of the criminal may perhaps be said to date from the war period, but one of the most important measures foretelling the change in opinion which was to follow later, was the Mental Deficiency Act of 1913. This (in Sections 8 and 9) involved the recognition of a partial lack of responsibility i...
